Charlie and the SleepyPod

The folks at Sleepypod.com were kind enough to send us a Strawberry Red Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed to test out.

A Sleepypod is a pet bed and pet carrier all-in-one. The benefit of it is that it is a bed at home and then you just zip on the sturdy mesh top to make it a carrier. So it isn’t as stressful as bringing out the pet carrier twice a year. In other words, since your pet is used to it as a bed, they welcome being placed in it to be taken to the vet.

When you get it, you simply remove the top and then leave the bed in your pet’s favorite sleeping spot in the house. If you play with them around it and for cats, especially, put catnip inside of it, then you can easily entice them to use the bed as frequently as possible. Once they use the bed for awhile and it acquires their scent, then will love it!

We brought it to the vet on numerous occasions and received compliments and inquiries from the vet, the vet techs and other customers. Everyone loves the ingenuity behind it.

The bed itself is made of ultra-plush fabric and foam – therefore eliminating the hard plastic of other carriers. The lining is removable and can be washed!

The carrier is expensive, however, if you think of the fact that a cat lives on average 9 years, then it averages to about $16+/year. It can be buckled in the car securely with the seat belt through the top handle.

SleepyPod

The only problem we found with the Sleepypod is that Ragdoll cats are usually more than 15 lbs., so it isn’t perfect for all cats.

We found the Sleepypod to be:

  • innovative
  • functional
  • well-designed
  • modern
  • versatile
  • fun

Dimensions:

  • Bed and Dome – 17” x 13.5” – 4.5 lbs.
  • Bed and Dome (Inside) – 15” x 11.5”
  • Bed – 17” x 6.5” – 3 lbs.

Buy The Sleepypod

It comes with a padded shoulder strap, removable mesh dome top with carrying handle, machine washable and replaceable bedding, a water-resistant foam liner and instructions.

Bonus! You can purchase a low-power Warmer Pad or replacement bedding separately.

Be aware that the regular size Sleepypod does not meet airline regulations, but the mini one does. Sleepypod has come out with the Sleepypod Air In-Cabin Pet Carrier.

It has received numerous awards from animal experts, such as the Metropolitan Home Design 100, Cat Fancy’s Editor’s Choice Awards, and Pet Product New Editors’ Choice Award.
