ShedMonster Cat Shedding Tool – Floppycats.com Product Review

Caymus with Shedmonster

When we were contacted by ShedMonster to do a product review for them, I was interested because I know people are always looking for a cat shedding solution.

This cat deshedding tool is high quality.  In fact, Caymus was my product tester on the ShedMonster and my dad was really impressed with the quality of the tool.

Everyone could use a little cat grooming help, and you can get it with the ShedMonster.  I have used the Furminator on another Ragdoll cat that I was cat sitting once and didn’t like how it pulled out the silky layer of fur.  I am not sure what that hair is called, but it’s the hair that gives your cat’s coat a sheen.  I was actually scared to use this tool because I love Caymus’ coat and didn’t want him to loose his beautiful shine.  He has the best coat in the world, the WORLD.  The feel of it is amazing.  And both my mom and dad commented on how great his coat looked afterwards.  So it didn’t pull and damage his healthy hair – just removed his deeper hair.

If anyone reading this review knows what I am talking about as far as that top layer of fur with the “pretty” hairs and knows what it is called, please leave a comment or email me and let me know.

I did try the Shedmonster on Charlie monster and on Trigg, but they really dislike being brushed – no matter what the deshedding tool is, brushes aren’t their thing.  Of course, Rags, Caymus and Murphy all loved being brushed, so it’s weird to have cats that don’t enjoy it.  From my experience with them, I have learned to start brushing kittens at a young age, so they get used to it.  I am sure I could get them used to it, if I did it daily.  So the Shedmonster did it’s job with them, but it wasn’t as pleasant because Charlie and Trigg don’t like being brushed.  This is not a reflection on the Shedmonster though, more on Charlie and Trigg.

As a result, I did the video and most of my testing on Caymus:

Here’s the uber cheesy As Seen On TV Video, but as always those videos show you how cool it is!

You can buy the ShedMonster for $19.99 plus processing and handling of $7.99, so really the total cost is $27.98.

Since my cats, nor my mom’s cats have mats, I couldn’t test it as far as grooming matted cat fur is concerned.

Overall, I like the Shedmonster very much.  My dad liked it so much that he asked to keep it for his bathroom, where he gives Caymus his morning brushings.

  1. I use a metal cat flea comb, and I use it almost horizontally to the skin. It takes up all the loose fur in the undercoat, leaves a nice shiny coat, and Diva loves it.

You can buy it at a pet store for under $5

Just wanted to say that with the shipping added too it comes to a bit more!
    Sub-Total:$19.99
    Shipping & Handling (Standard S&H):$15.98
    Estimated Tax (5%):$1.80
    Order Total:$37.77
Yikes! Hope this thing works good for us!

  3. WOW Anna! Yes, $37.77 is A LOT. Maybe they will start carrying them soon in CVS and Walgreens, so that you don’t pay that much!

My husband and I purchased the shed monster today from PetSmart (in Canada) for $19.99 plus tax. I just tried using it on our baby girl (she is a DSH, maybe Russian Blue) but it didn’t give us great results. I think because her coat is short and it cannot pick up the fur, however, it did cause a small bare patch near her tail. Not sure how this happened as hardly any fur was removed. The instructions do state not to use repeatedly in one sport or this could happen, but i followed the instructions and it happened!! I think this would work well for long and medium coats on cats and dogs. When buying, make sure you pick up the right one for your pet because they do offer a short and long coat brush. We used the short coat version but no luck for us. I cannot say it completely doesn’t work because it just didn’t work for us. I have gone back to using a $6 comb with small teeth and it works wonderfully for our kitty’s coat. So to each his/her own.

  5. That’s interesting about a short hair cat – thank you so much for sharing this – otherwise I wouldn’t have known.

You’re welcome! With so many different gadgets out there it helps to let others know what works and what doesn’t.

  7. Anna – have you rec’d it? Do you like it?
